As a Les Mills group fitness instructorpreparation is percent part of the job. Whereas freestyle group fitness classes are designed by the individual instructor, Les Mills group fitness programs are pre-choreographed to set music that is chosen by the Les Mills International company ahead of time.
That means the moves are consistent, the music is globally licensed and the quality is verified by teams of professionals, soinstructors across the globe in 15, clubs have the tools they need to deliver a world-class work-out, every single time.
The tools provided by Les Mills come in the form of Les Mills program releases, which are distributed to instructors every three months. A release kit includes:. Over the past year, the Les Mills company has started to transition to distributing digital releases in order to be green, which means instructors now receive digital video, music and PDF notes each quarter rather than a hard-copy kit.
But yes, I do have one. Through a combination of reviewing the notes, writing a script, watching the class video and listening to the music. When I first get a release, I watch the full video and do some of the moves just to get the gist of what to expect.
A couple of weeks before the official launch of the new program which usually happens at a quarterly special event at the gyms I teachI begin to learn the moves. My advice to new Les Mills instructors is to over-prepare. If you are completely confident with the choreography and how it fits with the music, you will absolutely teach a better class, which you can tailor to your personality in your coaching style.

Shotgun is a nice piece of music to get the workout going, preparing your body, mind and soul for the ride. Basically, the music is the driving factor.
You just need to coach the choreography, using your voice as you build in the Climb, Attack and the fast Race. Track 3 is Alternative Rock at its best. There are many changes between the slow and fast Climbing paces, so clear coaching of this will be needed to make sure your riders hit those different paces. The curve-ball of the release is Track 4. The RPM of the track is way slower than normal, so we are riding ahead of the beat in the seated Pace phases and on the beat during the recovery.
The music gives you the license to have some fun and bring out the feel of the song using your body, face and voice. Pre-load the legs to kick-start the muscles into gear, and slingshot into the workout! Track 6 — this is Trance at its best: a full beat, with beautiful melodies. It creates a romantic heartfelt feel, with a big lift into the working phases. This track is about speed endurance.
Do You Like It Loud? Of course you do! Track 7 is a classic old-school remix in the mountain to bring us home. And you did! In Track 8 we regroup and allow our heart rate to come down and re-gather ourselves after such 'an awesome' workout!
RPM 81 is another 'kicking' release with great tunes and a workout to match.

Not sure how many they have left but you should be able to find old releases there.
Otherwise check Ebay sometimes there are a few listed on there, but they get pricey! The playlists I post are the regular music links, sometimes Les Mills use their own remixes which are sometimes hard to get on iTunes. Hope that helps.
